After the first week in Writing 60, I am starting to learn a lot about animals through some of the TIMES articles we had assigned. One of the most interesting thing's I learned, was about how in many ways, animals are extremely similar to us in ways like forming friendships and mourning deaths. Another thing I learned was how dogs and cats are different and one of the ways they are different is that dogs are more domesticated and cats are more closely related to their wild ancestors since they have not changed much since being domesticated.

So far while being in this course, the 3 major assignments we have for the quarter are scicomm article, advocacy project, and our final portfolio. For late assignments, you can turn in late homework for two weeks after the initial due date and still get credit, 9/10, but after two weeks it will not be accepted. We have a grade contract because this class is more focused on practicing which allows for mistakes instead of the traditional method which doesn't allow for creative freedom. To tabulate your own course grade, you start with 84 points and for 3 11's you get +2 points and for three 9's you get -1 point. If you also do EC opportunities, you get +1 point.

I like how you describe the difference between dogs and cats! They are very brief and clear. But I have a question about the contract grading, does Dr. Haas grade based on the quality of the assignment or simply completion? What if someone's work is submitted but in a super low quality?
