This Twitter Tuesday was our final one, and I have learned so much over this course that I shared on Twitter. One of the most important things I learned, was the great aspects of good writing. One of the biggest projects this year was our scicomm article and a big part of scicomm articles are that they are filled with research and information, yet they are captivating as they are told like a story. Filled with descriptive language, real-world applications, and stories from the writer, it makes the content interesting for readers and easy to understand. It is important to have an article that includes all of these elements because it makes the reader more interested in the topic. Another thing I learned from this class was the power of social media, even mentioning it in my advocacy project. Throughout this entire course, we utilized social media platform, Twitter and even created our own website. I will always be an advocate for using social media platforms to spread awareness as it has created and educated so many people, linking the gap between different countries and people. I think that I will continue to use social media as a powerful tool to create change, not just in animal issues but in areas such as politics, social justice issues, and our environment. A lot of my peers had similar things to say about the things I learned in this course. We also were tasked to follow 5 different account related to our major and future career. I would like to become a physician's assistant in psychiatry one day, and following people like Kami Harris who has been creating change within mental illness and Jack Turban who has been researching trans youth mental illness, helps inspire me to create change like them and focus on issues that are important to me. I also learned about the power of organizations and so I decided to follow the American Psychiatric Association and Foundation to connect to more people and learn about the psychiatric field.
