For this week's Twitter Tuesday, we had to focus on the second part of our advocacy project, the solutions and counter argument. One of the solutions I found, I actually found last week when looking for multimedia items to use in our paper. This selected solution had to do with building artificial nests for penguins in order to help them escape the rising heat from global warming, an ultimate effect of climate change. Because of the increasing temperatures, penguins are susceptible to heat strokes and abandoning their chicks and eggs during the breeding season, ultimately decreasing the penguin populations. These nests provide protection from the heat and a safe place for penguins to finish the breeding season. The second solution I found was on a government level which is creating marine protected areas. With marine protected areas, the animals can grow resilient against climate change and it keeps food webs in tact. One of the biggest issues with climate change is that it is decreasing the food availability for penguins. Creating marine protected areas is a main focus that many agencies and animal organizations are focusing on. The classmate tweets that I found effective were the ones that included their counterarguments and the rebuttal to them. By adding in how they were wrong, it helped gain interest and support for my peer in the issue they were researching. I believe my best tweet was this one linked here. I believe this was my best tweet because I provided a solution and explained it in the most direct way and why it benefits penguins. Also, the picture I used with the tweet help explained marine protected areas which can interest and captivate viewers.
