During this week's Twitter Tuesday, we had to utilize ChatGPT to find true stories about your chosen animal. I really enjoyed this assignment as it gave me a chance to find true stories that share penguins social behavior, which is what I searched for when I asked ChatGPT. One of the stories that I found about is that when other penguins need help, instead of abandoning them, the penguins will often get together to help save each other. For example, scientists studying emperor penguins in Antarctica during the harsh winter breeding season noticed that when a penguin fell in a crack of ice, the penguins would create a chain link to help rescue them. This story was incredible to read because I have often read how penguins help everyone in a colony during breeding season and it's crazy to see how strong their bonds are together. We were also tasked to following new accounts. One of these accounts that I followed was Tawaki Project. This account follows ecology and population research in New Zealand crested penguins. Their Twitter page includes a lot about their findings and puts it in easy terms to understand, like small fun facts everyday! I also had a lot of fun reading what type of stories my colleagues found. One interesting story was found by Derek Liu, his twitter is linked to find more stories as well. He found a story in Orange County, which is where I'm from, about how instead of killing and eating stray kittens, a coyote instead took the kittens in as its own and took care of them. I loved this story because it shows how animals can be unexpected and different than the stereotypes. Animals continue to surprise me the more I learn about them.
