This week for Twitter Tuesday I learned so much! We had to utilize ChatGPT to find out new facts about our chosen animals. One of the new things I learned from this exercise about penguins was about their shedding process called "molting." Like most things, feathers also go through normal wear and tear and so once a year penguins will shed their feathers. While they shed, they cannot go into the water and hunt like they normally do, so instead of using their energy on hunting they divert it to regenerating their feathers. While they "molt", penguins will fast which was crazy to me because this process can last anywhere from a couple weeks to a month. They rely on their fat to sustain them during this process. One of the new researchers I followed on Twitter actually captured baby emperor penguins leaping off a 50 ft. cliff to take their first swim which has never been captured on film before! To check this video out check @bertiegregory on Twitter! I also had a fun time scrolling through my classmates posts and interesting facts they learned on the #UCanimals page. One of the new things I learned from my classmate was the purpose of big floppy ears on dogs. I have always thought dogs with big floppy ears were so cute but the purpose of those ears are to enhance their smell by capturing more scent particles for their nose. Overall, I enjoyed this weeks Twitter Tuesday and I felt like I learned a lot of new interesting facts that I didn't know before. Check out my twitter @tiffanynguyenUC for more tweets and interesting facts about penguins!

I had no idea that birds went through a shedding process! My mind is blown😲! I wonder what determines the amount of time each penguin goes through the molting process, perhaps it could be age?

Hey, I thought your commentary on molting was really interesting! I can't believe babies jump 50 feet down to the water!! I wonder if the penguins are cold while they molt?

Hey Tiffany, really enjoyed reading this blog! I love that you chose to research penguins, and I'm excited to learn more about them by reading more of your research later. I was wondering if you could have given more information about the ChatGBT exercise. For example, how did you use ChatGBT to find this fact, and was there anything else you learned?
